The Bovine has been quiet in January. Intentionally so.
The Los Angeles fires hit home, for us, just how delicate communities can be. Having lived in LA for 25 years, we consider our spiritual home, and know Pacific Palisades and Altadena well. Many of our Herd have been profoundly impacted by the disaster, including the loss of homes and businesses. I've spoken with several of you personally, and our hearts go out to you as you rebuild and move forward.
From the start, we have seen the Bovine Classic as a community. As it turns out, that's what many of our riders had been craving too, because you've embraced what we do and allowed us to embrace you right back. We ride together, we laugh together, we look out for each other. That is always the hope, at least.
We originally said that we'd have a price increase for this year's ride entries on January 1. That day has obviously come and gone. We recognize many of you have more on your minds right now than hoofing it with us in October, so we've decided to postpone that increase to June 1 instead.
Plotting and scheming for Operation Lumbering Bovine is in full, so sit tight. This even includes our routes and segments. At the moment, though, Big Boviners should plan on hoofing it through the Land Conservancy's private ranch once again. That said, we're exploring ways to make that segment a little less spicy than last year's hoedown.
In the next couple weeks, we'll be announcing our annual community rides as well, so keep an eye open for those. They're typically a good excuse to pop into town for a quick getaway, and an opportunity to play bikes with the locals.
And, yes, we will definitely have our annual Thursday AND Friday pre-rides event week. (Hey, sponsors, this would be a good opportunity for y'all to add even more TLC to our already love-filled love fest.)
And, in case you haven't seen it, we're shockingly ahead of schedule with our design for this year's official jersey by our friends at Voler Cycling Apparel. Match with with a pair of Voler's Pro Bibs, and you'll be ready to rumble in style.
We're working with local hotels to get y'all MOOvelously discounted rates. Also, Franklin Hot Springs, in Paso, is available for paid camping.
This is who we have lined up so far for accommodations
Springhill Suites Atascadero (CODE: BCBBCBA)
Holiday In Express in Atascadero
Best Western Plus Black Oak in Paso Robles
The Bovine has typically hosted an executive gravel cycling camp every April-May. This year, Alison Tetrick and I are teaming up to co-host a weekend of zone 2 mixed-surface riding focused on more on Personal Relationships rather than Personal Records. Our goal is to workshop interesting personal challenges with creative conversations while we pedal.
We will let good ideas flow at endurance pace. Learn more.
That's it for now.
Onward.
